Introduction to the Trout Fisheries in Aberdeenshire
Aberdeenshire anglers enjoy some of the best stillwater trout fishing in Scotland. Our fisheries are mainly stocked with rainbow trout, blue trout and brown trout depending on the location, all of which provide great sport on the fly.
You will hopefully catch plenty of trout from around 1 lb to 10 lb in weight ( 0.45 to 4.5 kg ) and if you are lucky, there are also some much larger ones to be caught. Good water quality and high levels of natural feed help to produce some beautiful, hard fighting fish.
The tackle and tactics that you would normally use for your trout fishing should also serve you well in Aberdeenshire. Floating fly lines work well in most conditions at all the venues listed on the website and an intermediate fly line can also prove handy.
Use your favourite flies with confidence, dry flies, spiders, wet flies, nymphs, buzzers and lures will all produce good sport for you in the right conditions. The fishery owners and staff are always keen to see you enjoying a good day, so don't be afraid to ask for advice!
You will find lots of information and photos covering individual trout fisheries in the "stillwaters" section of the website, so please explore the links provided. There are a good selection of bank fishing venues and one or two offering boat fishing too.
For those who enjoy competitions there are a number of Troutmaster Waters to visit and for those who don't, many of the fisheries are set in peaceful, scenic locations and are simply great places to relax and get away from the stresses of modern day life.
