They look really good for the price point.

Got to admit after too many holes in waders  I now just buy something cheaper and treat them more as disposable.

so i used the waders on Saturday and i am very very impressed for £70 inc postage !!! Great fit, finish and no leaks !

To be honest the braces are overkill as they stay up nicely with just the belt but that would be my only point.

The also do chest waders for £125 that look the business. From a Scottish based company called fishing mad..

I also bought their leisure battery charger for £20 that is amazing also....

So i wandered up onto Dava Moor on Saturday afternoon for a couple of hours to do a wee spot of burn fishing.

It was a little gusty at time and bright sunshine but the little burn did not disappoint with lightening fast , feisty wee brown trout coming to the net

Choose my wee Taniwha #4 with a Barrio smallstream line with a small bead head nymph - never even needed to change flies.














As you can see the fish had very different marking from one another and one of them was incredibly spotty including all over its back...

Well past 80 and my legs will not do as they are told. Find now happy just to catch a fish. The days of catching more have gone. Possibly enjoy my fishing more now. Even blank days are welcome.

Glad to read you are enjoying your fishing, Sandy.
If back in early April I had been offered the opportunity to spend the following three months enjoying time spent by a river while making new friends and catching trout on dries including a couple over 20 inches I would have accepted without hesitation. I choose to fish for trout in rivers that run through country where just sitting and watching are the reasons to be there.
When half-a-world away from the Don on a lovely day in mid-March I arrived at this bank



there was little activity at the surface. After a while spent watching birdlife the breeze dropped-out and across a long flat pool many fish began to rise. Female spinners were returning to the river to deposit their eggs. Trout relish feeding on spinners. Casting a size 18 red spinner imitation to feeding fish in calm conditions was glorious. If I had passed-up the opportunity to sit on a lovely bank and had wandered further upstream I may have missed out memorable fishing.

Rod Building / Build #6 - Taniwha 10' 6wt

Hi all,

I finished a rod recently, my 6th build. This is based on the Taniwha TNHX 10' 6wt blank and I built it to chase sewin, fish our upland llynoedd and the odd day of bothering rainbows. More details for anyone interested below.
















Blank: Taniwha TNHX 10' 6wt 4piece blank

Reel Seat: Struble U20 black anodized with an insert turned by Jason @ Fortitude

Guide Set: Sea Brand black anodized snakes with a single stripping guide a matching black tip top.

Thread wraps: the main wraps are Tire 50wt silk in "Cinamon" + "Gen V" resin.

the little "lowlight" is Fuji polyester in colour #33. This is a "no colour preserve" thread and nice and opaque contrast which I have now used on a few rods and I like the effect. I managed to get this to two wraps by using waxed thread and a clove hitch... yes every 3rd one pings when I try and cut it with a razor but it's quick to do.

The contrast band on the ferrule & hook keeper wraps is Tire silk in "Chocolate Mouse"... my inspiration for the scheme was the Scott G series...



but I moved away from the closer colour match to the darker browns as I seem to like muted and they picked up the reel seat insert well.




If you're still reading here are a few refinements from my latest build:

1. I put much more time into the guide prep. I bought a little off-brand dremel-type grinder and it makes it a whizz to actually get the guide feet very nicely prepped vs getting fed up and thinking "that'll do"




2. I also invested in a wee hot air gun which I find helpful to warm and slick the epoxy before removing any excess. I was really trying to improve this stage and whilst it took a third coat as I erred on keeping them thin, it's my best job yet.

3. I took 2 lessons from the pod Sandy did with Pete Tyjas... I was relentless with using a fresh razor to cut off any dust or fuzzy bits of thread between coats. At 24h the resin seems to hit a hard-but-leathery stage and you can be very precise an clean.

I also did away with the bobbin holders/tensioner in the rod wrapper and used a fly-tying bobbin holder... and preferred the control this gave me.

4. A tip from Jason, after thoroughly cleaning your space before epoxy, boil a kettle in the room. It knocks out a fair bit of airborne dust out.

Anyway, I'm happy with it and taking it out in ernest for an hour or so this evening. Hope this is of interest to anyone who dips into these pages

so i got them in the post. They look amazing...











Belt and braces. Great fit. Very neat stitching. Love the colour. Outside zip pockets - a very nice touch. The zip and the front is not for helping you pee , its for loosening them to help get them on and off.

Just need to test them now...

( the feet arent as massive as they look in the picture - its the camera angle !)
