Nice fish Duncan.

Just shows a few still manage to run over wet stones in a drought.

Headed off upstream again this afternoon with the single hander.
I was hoping to catch a grilse or sea trout but got hold of something more special.
A beautiful big Brown trout, the best i've had for a long time.
Lovely autumn colouration but my photo doesn't do it justice.

A three hour slog upriver this afternoon with no fish showing. Then suddenly a 12 pound fish out of the blue.

That's fishing

Lovely evening on the river tonight but the nights are closing in fast now.

Had one last cast for the Brownies just as the light was starting to go.

A cracking brownie to end the season on.

Season has been pretty hard going on the river for me but an hour on the river is always better than an hour at work. *smiley-grin*

I had a few enjoyable days at the trout in September but it was fairly hard going in the low water. I was experimenting with some size 12 wets I called the Autumn Butcher.

I managed to get a fairly nice Sea Trout and a good looking brownie on it. I also lost a Grilse but not sure if it took the Silver or Autumn Butcher.

Kind a feels like the whole season is over now as the dry bright weather and low water continues into October. I wouldn't be too disappointed if I didn't fish again this season as I have had a couple nice Grilse recently but it would be nice to brush the cobwebs off my 13ft rod for couple days if the wet weather arrives before the end of October.

Been enjoying watching the euro nymph videos posted on YouTube by nymphing maniac. Very interesting and enjoyable to me who doesn't use this method. But there is little doubt during tricky conditions in low water in the last 3 months of the season it's highly effective. Of course the lower Don is well suited to this method.

Seems to me you basically have to put the nymph right in front of the trout's mouth a few times and it will take it.

Kinda makes it harder for an old fella like me fishing old style with wets and drys when the trout won't budge from its spot and rise up or chase the fly.

He posted a video from Bithnie which is worth a look. He caught a couple trout in really shallow streamy water barely cover your wading boot.

I going to have to adapt and try something different next season when the going gets tough :z8  :z8

Nice fish Ivor.
You did well to get a sea trout as they are in short supply this season.

A couple of deadly looking flies there.
You are obviously getting a hang of the fly tying.

Headed to the river this afternoon thinking the water would be up a bit after last nights heavy rain.
However ,i don't think there had been any change.
The river is as low as i can remember at this time of year with little chance of a fish but as Keith says ,better on the river bank than at work :)
