« on: September 15, 2008, 21:43:45 PM »

Anyone know much on which Electric motors are good and which battery  you need for them (size etc).
Any info would be much apreciated.
Are the 34lb thrust ones any use or are you as well going for the 45lb thrust one.

Provided you have the battery power, bigger is always better  :z16

I know a man who may be able to help you out if you're shopping, I'll email him and see if he's still doing electric outboards :z17

i have found alot depends on the make of the engine we have several brands/ hps

we have one 30hp (can not remember brand of top of head) that is more powerfull than the 36hps minnkotas,

personally dont rate shakespears they seem to have more problems and no where as powerfull as other engines of same size

our engines are used daily and have few problems with them,

battery wise we use lesure batteries mainly 115 amp, obviously the higher the amp the longer they last plus the stronger the engine the quicker the battery flattens.

if you want to have a look at ours and try the differant sizes/brands pop over and i will get them all out for you to look at

That engine of mine is a 32lb thrust and it copes with most things,  I use 85amp batteries cause they are easy for transporting.  Unless you are going to be trawlling all day you dont need big engines around here.   jim

You  need to get a leisure battery , normal batteries wont hold the charge for extended periods.

If you dont spend your money on fishing  :z15 , you'll end up spending it on loose women and strong drink  :z13  or even worse just wasting it  :grin
