so the photo of the day today.....

Question 1 - what reel is that ? Its really un-usual ( i like it BTW)

Question 2 - the reel seat. I notice that there are no locking nuts to hold the reel in place. How common is this configuration and what is the advantage ? I think I wold be worried it would fall off ?

I think it is an Ari T Hart reel James, probably a Lake Taupo or Rio Orbigo model.

It's Sandy's rod and reel, so I'm sure he will be able to answer your questions better than I can.

It's an Ari Hart Traun F1 in black and gold.

The sliding band seats work great on lighter rods where there is less energy being applied. I use them for my own rods on rods 7'6" and less. I have found that on rods longer than 8' they don't work as well so will use a screw style seat. The rings are usually nickel silver or brass so they grip the feet well provided you push them on properly. Most guys who make them,  bevel the inside diameter so they taper and lock on the foot

i do like the reel....especially as you can use it as a hook holder which explains why you dont put them on your rods ! Finally i know the answer....
