Independent websites, blogs and forums have been disappearing at an alarming rate in recent years, the web (www World Wide Web) as we knew it has changed, and revisiting our bookmarks will all too frequently produce a 'Can't be found' message.

Replaced mostly by algorithms, corporations, bots and monetising 

Is the Fly Fishing Web still alive in 2025 - What fishing websites do you visit?

i used to be on the salmon fishing forum, when i used to fish for salmon when i lived in Aberdeenshire. However it became more and more toxic with people just being deliberately provocative and bullying, plus there were a lot of politics threads where the yes and no camps just savaged each other - so strangely i left.

this forum is almost unique in regards to people posting under their names and there is no politics mentioned...

I visit the Salmon Fishing Forum from time to time James and some of the others within that group.

I have not been a member for years ..... I think they all belong to VerticalScope Inc. nowadays.

Which fishing websites are we visiting and enjoying in 2025?

To be honest this is the only site i use. For inspiration, patterns etc i tend to use YouTube, Insta etc....

Hi Mike , I am similar to James , this really being the only forum I frequent, and would agree many forums became very toxic 🎣🎣

I visit a few facebook fishing related groups, But some of those boarder on train wreck TV if you know what I mean. Also peruse Instagram a fair bit and Youtube. Only other Website I use now a days is this forum.

Making people post under their own names was a great idea as it seems to avoid the pot stirring that is so common elsewhere.

Some of the stuff that is posted on social media, thinking of a couple of specific pages and YouTube channels, do not always present our pastime in the best light. I would potentially go so far as to say some of the media and statement posted could be damaging to the sport. It would be interesting to read/hear others thoughts on this.

I used to like and put the odd post on the 'Wild Fishing Scotland' fly fishing forum, I think that was it's name. I gave up on it, the admin kept blocking me for no reason, some odd bloke ran it if I remember.
Now, I've got my YouTube favourites.

I am slowly trying to get away from internet and all the couch experts that seem to frequent most of it. This is the only place where people are friendly and I would take advice from. Have come off social media and all that as well as just found I lost days or hours reading drivel. Starting to get back into actual face to face chats and going along to club meets and have a good old gab with folk.

Just out of interest on the salmon fishing forum there was a thread asking about how many fish you had caught. Being new to forums i could not believe how few fish most "experts" had caught. As others have said using own names is a great thing. Bob.
