Hello all and happy new year. I hope you have a prosperous 2025 filled with tight lines and large fish! I'm going to visiting Cairngorms National park in the first week of May, and I'm looking for some insight into appropriate tackle. I'm staying in Aviemore for a couple of days and then biking and camping through the park. Since I'll be riding mostly, I'm hoping to cut it down to the bare essentials. Any advice on rod, set up, and essential flies would be extremely welcome!  It looks like it might be the end of salmon season? Cheers!

Well, the river Spey goes through Aviemore and there are trout, sea trout and salmon in the river (you will need a permit and there are different permits for different bits of the river) - https://www.abernethy-angling.co.uk/aviemore-beat/

If i were you I would take a trout rod ( #5 or so) and look to fish the streams and lochs for the brown trout

This club is a bit south of aviemore but are worth a look - https://badenochangling.wixsite.com/fish
