Struggling with 3.5 reading glasses

Struggling a tad tying size 12 wet flys with my 3.5 glasses. Thinking about magnifying lenses from Amazon but unsure about the magnification on lenses compared to standard reading glasses.

Any advice welcome.

I'm thinking magnification will be similar however I would get one with built on lights, that makes big difference

I don't know how old your are, however the reality is that your eyesight today is probably better than it will be ten years from now. If you think you will still be fly tying and fishing in ten years time, my advice is to invest in good illumination over your vice. The size and quality of the illumination they use tells you everything. Good lighting can help maintain good vision.

I never really considered the lighting. I will have to get a decent light.

I only need +1.5 for reading and using my phone so 3.5 should be enough for fly tying  would think.

I only started tying a couple years ago at age 58 so still learning. Wish I had started years ago

I find lighting makes a big difference to everything that I do nowadays, I use a similar lamp when welding loops for example.

Ivor, I am little further down the road than you and I continue to enjoy tying and fishing. I think it likely that with improved lighting you will find renewed enjoyment in your tying.

I'm with you Mike. Once your have good lighting many intricate jobs become easier and the results more satisfying. I use my tying desk and light when creating loops in fly lines, tying leaders and many other rigging jobs necessary in coarse and lure fishing.
