What Have You Been Tying Today?

Cracking flies Ben. I had a fair bit of success with a Sedgehog with foam and legs last week. I tied the foam in more like a gurggler than a booby, but it will fish in a similar way.

I had a couple of red letter days on the original Daddy tying last week, hopefully this version will be as successful.

So having seen the power of flies with blue in them on Loch Brora I thought i would try something a little different with a free sample of straggle fritz i received as part of an order ( it has blues, reds and gold and really shines in the water)

I've been chilling this morning and planning for my winter project to tie up some of Rene Harrops patterns. I have adapted quite a few of his designs over the years but I want to get a few of his proper ones in the river box for next year.
His last chance cripple and the captive dun in the right colour should cover all the olives that hatch in various sizes.
I've had a few trials and given the olives are basically the same dirty yellow green underneath I think I'm getting close. Will go test these later as we have SDOs and BWOs hatching still.
They are ok to tie in a 16 but are very tricky in an 18.

I'm liking the use of muntjac  - its normally roe or sitka that you see used but I'm definately liking the muntjac 

I hope things have been easier on your fish than they have on our little west wales spate river... but the warm temps and low water has seen me (a) mess around with making my own dubbings and (b) focus on the hills & headwaters...

I'm loving some white on my flies at the moment as it seems very very effective.

Dark winter roe head, white deer hair wing and, olive micro straggle for the body and some 'sparkle' in the tail and wing (#10)

It's a finer, straighter hair with less flare. I didn't like it for the hogs but it worked OK on the sedge wings

Yes the Llyn box has been a bit of a focus with our spate river so low and warm...! But a handy prompt Sandy to catch the tail of the season and start planning/dreaming for next year

That's what I did... but when a bit OTT with the legnth of the deer wing... this is in Norwegian but it's easy to follow along. What I thought was interesting is how Tommy ties in the knotted legs... right at the start and winds between them like a spinner tail

Here you go. He's the originator of the Leatherman which I have had success with on the Llyn trout but apparently fishes in the river too. Many say it's a "do everything" pattern but popped under and allowed to rise I reckon it's a deadly corixia impersonation...
