Looking for tips for Lake of Menteith

Hi guys, new to the forum. Heading with my mate to Lake of Menteith third week in March. Any recommendations for flies and tactics to use this time of year. I am guessing that buzzers will be the way to go, probably on a washing line. Any thoughts on traditional wet flies, like Kate McLarens, butchers, etc.? Look forward to your replies.

Hi Bill ..... Welcome to the forum 

I've only fished it a couple of times and that was many moons ago, so I can't offer anything useful I'm afraid.

Think it was later in the year, but I do remember that I caught a few fish on Kate McLaren and that the dry fly fishing was rather good.

Fingers crossed that somebody else can help.

I fished March last year and had good days fishing, washing line tactics and also dry fly. I would expect you will have some excellent fishing.

Thanks Guys. We have 2 days booked so should give us plenty time to try different tactics. My preference is always the dry fly when fish are rising, so fingers crossed.

Not fished to lake for a few years but always had good early season catches on buzzers. There will be a few who are on fast sink lines and some lures of some sort but I prefer washing line buzzers.

The usual wet flys have always done me well as well on a 3 fly cast.

So, we had two days on the Lake without a single fish to the net. Both days unusually bright for March with not many fish rising. We tried everything we could to connect with a fish, dry, buzzers, traditional wet flies, lures, floating lines, intermediate lines and full sinkers, but no joy. Didn't see much action from the other boats either. We will try again later in the season. Thanks for all the replies.
