A mayfly half hog has long been a favourite on the Highland lochs with a hatch.

I have replaced one of the deer hair wings with a spun cdc hackle. A softer, fuzzier look.

Hopefully put it too the test next weekend

I tied this last night, was going to use it this morning, but the other fly I had on my tippet produced on the first cast.
Next time out I will start with this.

Underbody and rib, doubled at thorax, gold wire.

Not a great pic, but the first nymph with legs from the thorax that I am actually going to fish.
I know it will do the job.
It did do the job, 17 small brown trout yesterday, which proved, it has not got to be a picture perfect fly to work well.

Tied this a while ago.
Raking through my boxes and found this.
Based on the Teal and Black, which in my opinion is an excellent and productive but tied for the evenings where I always see these yellow small pyramid looking flies ascending all around me.
Saw them in Yorkshire and now see them in the NE of Scotland.

so Mr RML posted a fly on insta that I quite liked so i thought i would give it a 'tweak' - replacing the dubbed body on the original with pearl tinsel and using a red hen hackle instead of red dyed guinea fowl for more 'bling'

( excuse the rough head - it is now hidden with black varnish)
