Yes the Llyn box has been a bit of a focus with our spate river so low and warm...! But a handy prompt Sandy to catch the tail of the season and start planning/dreaming for next year

It's a finer, straighter hair with less flare. I didn't like it for the hogs but it worked OK on the sedge wings

Back on the muddlers.

I'm loving some white on my flies at the moment as it seems very very effective.

Dark winter roe head, white deer hair wing and, olive micro straggle for the body and some 'sparkle' in the tail and wing (#10)

I'm liking the use of muntjac  - its normally roe or sitka that you see used but I'm definately liking the muntjac  :z16

Cool flies, lots of nice loch style ones.  :z16

I've been chilling this morning and planning for my winter project to tie up some of Rene Harrops patterns. I have adapted quite a few of his designs over the years but I want to get a few of his proper ones in the river box for next year.
His last chance cripple and the captive dun in the right colour should cover all the olives that hatch in various sizes.
I've had a few trials and given the olives are basically the same dirty yellow green underneath I think I'm getting close. Will go test these later as we have SDOs and BWOs hatching still.
They are ok to tie in a 16 but are very tricky in an 18.

This is the last chance cripple olive in a 16





The same olive combo as the captive Dun in a 16

So having seen the power of flies with blue in them on Loch Brora I thought i would try something a little different with a free sample of straggle fritz i received as part of an order ( it has blues, reds and gold and really shines in the water)

So i have never taken my 'new' ( she is 5 so not exactly a pup!) labrador fishing like i did my old one as she is a bit more 'free willed' and i was worried she would just wonder off and get lost, or constantly jump into the water next to me so on Sunday i thought ' right, lets do this' on a local loch for a couple of hours just to see how she got on....

Turns out i need not have worried. After wading in each time it would just take a couple of firm "no"s and she stayed on the bank and stayed put next to my bag.

Next adventure can be a day trip further away  - result



and suffice to say she loved going as she loves the outdoors and the hills

so at the weekend i found another amazing feature - you can take off and put back on the shoulder straps ! This is something i especially like as that are really comfy to wear with just a belt on. I have now used the waders a few times now and no leaks so well, well impressed

Neat idea for testing the motor.

I have a 100Ah lithium battery of the same make as in the link above. Bought it on recommendation of a friend. Great but of kit, I can carry motor and battery to and from the boat comfortably in a single trip now. Also makes it a lot easier getting the battery into the boat.

I have found the battery to have exceptional life. Have use it on some biggish lochs like Calder in a decent enough wave and could probably have repeated the day without charging the battery.


You also need a charger which is suitable for Li batteries.


If you are happy with your current battery then little point in changing. But if in the market for a new battery I would recommend looking into Li.
