I'm relatively new at fly tying and just wondered if many people have success with these flies?

Hi Daniel - Welcome to the forum  :z16

I'm not really up on what the popular flies are for stillwaters nowadays. I think it certainly helps if the profile/size of the fly is more or less right, but depth, retrieve and confidence is usually more important in my experience.

I haven't fished the Copper John, but I'm sure it would tempt a fish or two.

Daniel the copper John is a very popular nymph in the USA, I have a box full of them but the only place I ever used them was beside mount Kinabalu in Malaysia fishing for Mahseer. I'm sure they will work here as well.
