Hi Ben. It depends on the complexity of the pattern, but it usually takes me a few hours. Sometimes the feathers sit right and sometimes they don't. If you look at my first fly on page 1 of this thread, every thing is just wrong about it, jungle cock and feather wing are too short. Mrs jpm bought me a book by Mike Redencich plus I bought one myself which came with a dvd which is very helpful. So together with these books and dvd, I've been able to learn the techniques and apply them to my tying both salmon and trout flies. I think the hardest thing about these flies is the materials, some of them are quite hard to find and they are a bit expensive but I will keep tying and keep posting. I'm just happy to share them with y'all. Watch this space.
