1st Flyswap for 2010
« on: 26/02/2010 at 11:23 »
All,

Okay here goes.

Tie ten of the same fly, pop them in an envelope to me complete with a stamp addressed envelope inside.  I'll collate the flies and post you back ten flies of which nine will be different and you will get one of your own back again. Take a picture and post the dressing on this thread.

Deadline will be the 15th of April so it gives you six weeks by which time even Sandy should be able to get his flies here.

1. mdh - hare's ear beadhead nymph
2. Spiderman - Pink spot shrimp
3. Goolager - TBC
4. Paulfish_1 - Yellow owl Shuttlecock
5.Bigtroot - one for the rainbows
6.Catman - TBC
7.Hamish - Golden Loch Ordie
8.GRHE - Diawl Bach
9. Kevlard - pearly pennel
10.Clark - Pink Post Klinks

Reply or PM if you want to take part.

Cheers

Matt

good to have two willing volunteers already.  Just need to decide on your pattern.  Freestyle whatever you fancy really.

I'm doing a Czech style Pink spot shrimp.
Great for clear water like the Don, great colours for Grayling too.
Similar tying style to the Rhyac from Feb's SBS's
A great point fly on a czech team of two.

Hook: Partridge Barbless Shrimp size 16 (similar size to a B110 size 10 :shock)
Thread: Golden olive
Body: Light olive Micro straggle fritz, clipped on top
Bead: Tungsten 3.3mm Eumer Fl.pink

Finding the time is the tricky thing for me at the moment (seriously :!) but I will undertake to do something, most probably my Golden Loch Ordie which works well on the lochs for brownies but equally well for the 'bows elsewhere  :z16

Sorry Folks

I spend my working life chasing deadlines and my relaxation is fly tying when I can tie as and when I feel like it. Having commitments  and deadlines to meet would take away the pleasure for me so I will opt out of the fly swap for the moment.

Hope it works well for you all

Irvine

No problems Irvine. It's a bit different making ten flies all the same and can sometimes feel like a big chore! Hence why our swap won't be monthly and I might make the next deadline even longer than six weeks. It is nice when you get ten different flies back in the post!

Cheers

Quick simple effective flies are the best way for a swap :z16
I've done a few swaps now and that's what works best for me

I reckon we could do it quarterly that would seem reasonable
especially with 10 people at a time.

Let's see how this one goes :z16

Interesting Alex, I've been fishing something just like that for a few years  :z16 it's worth bunging in a turn or two of lead wire (at the head) just to help it drop through the water a smidgen quicker  :z17

Look forward to giving yours a hurl  :wink
