Lochter Report – Weather or not to fish

Down Lochter way the ensuing thaw has been a most welcome development which will no doubt herald a resurgence of eager anglers to emerge from their domestic cocoon’s of warmth to test  their mettle against the rigours that nature can throw at them. As the daylight is now slowly extending we can take solace and hope in the saying which goes “without the cold and desolation of Winter there could not be the warmth and splendour of Spring”. So that’s a very pleasant near future thought to concentrate  the mind on as opposed to ocean of uncertainty that’s occupies the News of late.

The other pleasing thing is that there has been some very encouraging returns for the time of year with some anglers in the 20 plus returns category for their sessions.Johnny Thackeray managed this fishing pearly cormorants and fabs, Colin Chrichton on a black bunny leech and nomad, Robert McPherson on cormorants and Peter Cowie on cormorants and fabs.

Paul Sharp fished the okay dokay for his 18 fish, Jim Brown stuck to buzzers for his 16 fish, Charlie Will used the popular fab and cormorant combination for 15 fish and Ryan Cameron had 14 fish on a  green cormorant or Montana style stalking bug.

A Tweedie stuck with a variety of black lures for his 13 fish, Stuart Howie had 11 fish on small nymphs, Mike Munro  used a frigate fly for his 10 fish, Alan Bain stuck with the damsel lure for 10 fish, Mike Skene had 9 fish on buzzers and Kenny Strachan had 8 fish on the ever reliable WSW lure.

So if you are still undergoing the tortuous ordeal of a ‘dry January’ the least you should do is pop down Lochter way to at least wet your line if not your whistle.
