I have heard of dapping on lochs, but can anyone advise if Dapping on rivers is succesful on rivers and if so how and when works?

Hi Brian - welcome to the forum  :z16

That's not something that I've ever tried, or heard of anybody doing. But, I do 'skate' flies like sedges across the surface with standard trout gear sometimes.

Cheers
Mike

My usual dapping rod is a 15 ft. Shakespeare rod idea from a boat but heavy to try on the bank.  Skating a muddler is a lot easier.

I 'sort of' dap with my 15' wafting rod. Boat mainly but also bank. Usually with a #3 line (Barrio of course). Had fish to 8lb.
The wafting rod has a lovely action and is tireless to use all day (and I'm 83). Used the wafter almost exclusively now for 4 years. www.wafting.co.uk
