Lochter Report - A Wind of Change at Lochter
« on: 09/11/2021 at 15:42 »
Down Lochter way last week you had to contend with gusts, gales and bluster accompanied at times by an incessant permeating rain, which is normally the type of weather which makes you less enticed to leave home. However a steady stream of hardy anglers paid little heed to the vicissitudes of Mother Nature and they were fully rewarded with some fine sport from our hard fighting fish.

It was noticeable that as the week progressed there was a change in tactics away from ‘small stuff’ to lay more emphasis on a well fished single lure which of course is easier to cast and less ‘fangly’ than a dropper set up.

Colin Taylor was a case in point fishing either a hotty dancer or black WSW on an intermediate line and he happily netted 16 fish for his 8-hour session.

Albert Trail also used a WSW lure as well as a squirmy worm for his 16 fish total.

On 15 fish was Graeme Duthie using a selection of mini lures, Kenny Fraser on the Dawson’s olive nomad and Bill Cordiner on either a humungous lure or yellow dancer.

Bill Wood continued his good form with 12 fish mainly on a white sparkler, Johnny Thackery had 11 fish on a hotty dancer and Jim Brown used lures and beaded nymphs to secure his 10 fish.
Once again this week lots of nice 4-6lb fish were being caught, as pound for pound, they are known to be the best fighting fish.

There were even a few dazed anglers muttering about a ‘monster’ trout in the depths of the Muckle Troot loch, which was paying no heed to the breaking strain technology of modern nylon. We will keep you updated on this disturbing episode.

Tight lines and check your knots.
