Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Howard & Stuart

Down Lochter way the usual excuses of too hot, too cold, too bright, too dull and too windy are just some of them trotted out by anglers after what for them was a less than successful day on the water.

However last weeks most pleasant weather meant the excuses were in short supply as virtually all methods were working; be that pulling lures or the more sedate twiddling techniques using buzzers and small nymphs.

Paul Ingram twiddled on apps bloodworm and buzzer combination to good effect netting 15 fish for his session.

Richard Parley mopped things up nicely getting 14 fish on different coloured mini mop lures.

Craig Thomson kept faith with a blue flash damsel and it got him 13 fish for his efforts.

Colin MacDonald had a ‘fab’ day netting 12 fish while using a fab or mini cormorants.

Johnny Thakkery fished a white WSW lure during his session and this famous lure proved its worth getting him 11 fish.

Fishing buddies Albert Trail & Bill Wood did consistently well landing 11 & 9 fish respectively on a mixture of blobs or diawl bachs.

Other returns were Jim Gilmour with10 fish on buzzers and blobs, Derek Massie with 9 fish on the apps bloodworm, Sandy Scott with 8 fish on the Montana lure and Bob Yuill with 7 on the yellow dancer lure.

With more mixed colder weather forecast for the weeks ahead an excuse might just come in handy.

Tight lines,
