Lochter Report – Rich Harvest at Lochter
« on: 24/08/2021 at 12:37 »
Down Lochter way last week the backdrop in the surrounding fields was the sight of the combine harvesters, woken from their slumbers to majestically sweep up their much deserved golden harvest.

A myriad of flies were seen swarming across the water as a result, to be gulped down by the appreciative hungry trout.

This in combination with the cloudy skies of last week made ideal condition for dry fly fishing with mornings and evening the most productive.

It was nice to continue to welcome holiday fishers and Bryan Reynolds from Perth certainly enjoyed his first time at Lochter getting 15 fish for his 8 hours session using a mixture of sedges, emergers and hackled dry flies.

Dave Corsie from Dumfries caught a nice 6lb blue trout amongst his 9 fish with the small black klinkhammer being his fly of choice and Chris Taylor from Edinburgh fished the Muckle Trout loch to good effect netting 8 fish on a buzzer and diawl bach set up.

Closer to home Albert Trail had 13 on a mixture of dry flies, Alfie Brown also had 13 on varying lures and Rod Palmer had 12 fishing emergers.

With warmer weather forecast for the week ahead it may be the case that you have to keep changing flies and tactics to keep the pernickety trout interested.  Remember challenge is good!!
