Lochter Report - Bright and Breezy at Lochter

(1/1)

Howard & Stuart:
Down Lochter way cold squalls put in a regular appearance every day last week but in between their arrivals you did have a window of opportunity to try some more traditional May, top of the water fishing.

On the bright side, things were very much a continuation from last week with the fish being seen greedily feeding on emerging fly life, so if you had the right fly on you were getting plenty of pulls, plucks and takes but if this wasn’t the case you had to change to match the hatch!

A man who had no difficulty doing this was Ronnie Ewen from Macduff who had a great day and went well into double figures using the greenwells spider, Kate McLoren and a selection of buzzers.

A special mention should go to Ronnies veteran fishing buddy Sandy Brown who had one of his best fishing days with 14 fish on the same type of flies. So well done to Sandy who always enjoys his days out to Lochter and has some great stories to tell.

There were plenty others on double figures with Alfie Brown getting his on a fab with a slow retrieve, Paul Keir got his on either bunny leeches or buzzers, and Albert Cowie used a wide selection of buzzers for his day session.

Jim Adie also used some self tied buzzers and had 12 fish to the net, Albert Trail used a team of diawl bachs to good effect and it got him 11 fish, Colin Taylor from Aberdeen had an apps bloodworm on the point and two okay dokays on the dropper and he had constant plucks and pulls to this set up and had 10 fish in a 4 hour session.

Jim Whyte had 10 using lures and nymphs, Bill Bain was happy with 10 fish all on lures, Davy Wood had 9 fish, all on the WSW, Brian Ross had 9 on an evening session using dry flies and George Hay had a lovely session with 7 fish taken on the greenwells spider.

So all in all a week when there were plenty of fish to aim for and if you did hook one there was plenty reports of some terrific fights being put up.

So come on past and test your knots.

Tight lines,

S.P 25/5/21
