Lochter Report – Deep Thinking at Lochter
« on: 14/10/2020 at 12:26 »
Down Lochter way last week the deep thinking wasn’t the ‘meaning of life’ type stuff but the more pressing concern was about what depth to fish at?

Many anglers were scratching their heads as rods bent around them and more especially when they could see that some lovely big trout were being landed.  Last week we quietly re-stocked all 3 ponds with our own home grown Lochter trout between 4lb & double figures.

We did this as a thank you to our loyal customers who have kept faith with us in these difficult times and it certainly seems to have been appreciated, going by the feedback we received after a weekend of very fine fishing.

Most anglers were using intermediate or sink lines to experiment to see if the fish were taking on the drop or the rise and apparently it was a 50/50 as they were catching on both.

Jim Wilson from Newmachar had an outstanding day on Saturday.  Using an intermediate line with an Apps bloodworm and black buzzer combination, he had 22 fish for his day session.  Jim Brown from Aberdeen used a selection of lures including the black WSW to bring 19 fish to the net.  Peter Young fished either blobs or buzzers during his day session and this got him 10 fish.

Ernie Mackay from Aberdeen used lures and nymphs to secure 14 fish to the net and one of his fish was a double figure one.  Sandy Wilson and Steve Argo were out at the weekend with the BT fishing club and Sandy won the day with 11 fish on bunny leeches and Steve did well getting 8 on a WSW lure.

Colin McDonald quietly went about his business and soon had 12 fish to the net using a team of cormorants set up and as a bonus, amongst his haul was a 5lb brownie and 4lb blue. So well done and an interesting fishing day.

Dave Taylor from Aberdeen was a surprise visitor to the Fishery on Saturday, it being 5 years since he last cast a rod.  Dave used to be a very regular and successful angler and he certainly hadn’t lost his touch as he had 10 fish for his session on a range of dusted off lures.  He seemed well enthused so we would hazard that we will be seeing him back again well before 2025.

Looking through the returns sheets other notable efforts were Graeme Garioch with 9 on the yellow fritz, Fred McAlley with 9 on the tequila blob and diawl bach, Albert Cowie from Fraserburgh with 8 on the yellow dancer and Steve McGowan with 7 on an orange blob.

It was also great to see the kids fishing in the bait pond during the tattie holidays with lots of shouting and excitement being heard as they landed their fish.

Anyway, lots going on at Lochter, why don’t you pop down soon to see what you’re missing, a friendly greeting awaits.
