Vintage Clan Sea Trout Rod
« on: 08/06/2020 at 12:19 »
Whilst wasting time on Facebook Marketplace yesterday, I came across this great example of a Clan Rods MacPherson split cane rod.

After some online research, I emailed the now-retired owner of clan rods Harry Jamieson, who replied with the following:-

“The 11ft 3pc  MacPherson was made around the early sixties, it was made as a Seatrout rod and taking a 6/7 line.

It could be possible I made it , however I have made 4689 rods since then !

Trossachs Rod started in Callander during 1870, 2 years before Hardy’s”

So after picking it up this morning, it really is a great piece of workmanship. Much slower action than my current carbon sea trout rod, and much heavier, but you can “feel” the craftsmanship.

Hopefully it will last another 50 years with care.

I do love a Clan rod. Ever so slightly envious!
Enjoy it and fish it. Harry is a top bloke and is a really fine rod maker.
