What's gonna be your fishing wagon for 2020?

Must confess that I'm not ready to go electric yet, but I've moved from the diesel Land Rover down to the wee 3 cyl petrol engined Cactus ..... which I think will keep my conscience happy for the moment as a step in the right direction and it's fun to drive 



But I've still got a yearning for a 110 Series lll Land Rover with a V8

Unexpectedly, my fishing wagon (well day to day transport really) is about to change from a Skoda Yeti to something that is not a Skoda Yeti 
I had no plans to change the Yeti which is a brilliant car, but I'm getting into something Swedish again

I've had a Yeti for a couple of years now and really can't fault it for the fishing.
A real shame that Skoda have stopped making them.

Fighting my conscience at the mo. My fishing wagon is a thirsty old 2.5 petrol X Trail. It's my second one. The first one was left in France and used as a chicken coup. The X Trail is surprisingly capable off road. I need a roomy off roader to do my club job leading the working parties.  Three weeks ago two of our members new Discos got stuck trying to follow me across a mud field - their gismo laden vehicles were no match for the basic X trail.  I've lost a lot of money having posh new cars - cars that I dare not scratch and that I could not abuse with muddy waders and wet gear.  Hence the old X Trails bought for two grand.  I am hankering about another pick up truck - love pick ups.

Mine at present is a KIA Sportage which I have winter tyres on. Keep them on all year.
My favourite  was my Citroen Dispatch van. Although I used it for work had it all rigged out with seats/stove/rod rack and could still stretch out in my sleeping bag. Would go most places and come the snow I got some pleasure going to the fishing looking at all the fancy mercs/B,M.W.  and others stuck.

If you think a petrol X trail is bad in fuel you should try using this for fishing.

Makes my other wagon seem free to run.

I once took the old landy to Durness to fish the limestone lochs. Took forever to get there and back and cost a small fortune in fuel but I loved every minute of it and I can sleep in the back and get anywhere. Proper fishing wagon, 36 years young and still going strong,

I'm back to a Skoda after a foray into the world of Subaru, very happy to be back on petrol , it smells so much better at the pumps.
Loving this Skoda better than anything i've had before it even shuts down 2 cylinders when it doesnt think you need them, which i think is pretty smart and seems to work really well. You can see her in the background hiding behind the Cactus

The 16 y/o X Trail 2.5 petrol only does 25mpg so my 1200 mile trips to the Assynt region costs a bit. It runs very smoothly and is comfortable. If I bought a more economical replacement, say 4 y/o, it would be about £15k  - I can buy a lot of petrol for £15k though.
Last year I did buy a replacement - a VW Tiguan diesel.  When I took it home the wife said -"you're not going fishing in that"! "You are not letting that lovely car smell of dead waders and fishing nets"! It is now her car    Good job I had not sold the X Trail.

Stopped at Ralia Cafe on the way home from Perth, if you're passing and like sweet things..... the chocolate & espresso brownie is epic

my wagon is some what more practical for me its a Fiat Punto eco boost, 1,2 TD, I fill up and it does over 60 just running about , I have had 80 mpg on the a9, it will do every thing I need of it, loads of room for a small hatch back, Derek Roxborough

I quite like Fiats Derek, although I haven't had one for about 30 years 

Haven't driven a Panda since one of the very first ones in Spain Euan, it had seats like picnic chairs .... but I know the current versions are hugely improved 

Looks like you'll have most things covered with those two Steven, I do like an estate car. Not driven a Delica, but being L300 derived, I'm guessing I'd like them.

Skoda Yeti 2.0 litre 4wd diesel.
Short wheel base; high suspension and  hard underbody protection. 
Replaced a Range Rover Sport which was lovely; but I don’t miss constantly refuelling and it’s fine across anything other than extreme terrain.

yes Mike, I had a more modern Panda which I liked a lot, my Daughter had the 4wd version nice wheels , my favourite early car was the Renault 4, I have had that in places where  Landies wouldn't go Being too heavy for some Boggy Ground here, with Michelin ZX +M all terrain tires, and being light it would literally go any where,  which is more than I can say about the Punto, but it goes and cheaply , Derek Roxborough

i have an old ( 2008) toyota rav 4 for my fishing, with vredistein quad5 all season tyres.
 not a quick car or fancy but talk about reliable..........

Plus the back seats go down quickly, and play so i can get the float tube straight from the garage into the car and into the loch - perfect
