I think that's the only tackle shop in Perth. I always tried to pop in when I was there. I'll always remember the shop for the cast of Georgina Ballantines record Salmon

So many retail businesses struggling in todayís climate.

Remember the days when Aberdeen had numerous tackle shops, it was great to have a choice and there always seemed to be one close to hand.

It really is difficult though especially when everyone has access to the internet and most things can be found cheaper elsewhere.

It must be difficult when youíve got the likes of John Norris and co regularly offering fishing equipment and clothing at heavily discounted prices.

At least John Norris, GAC etc are surviving. Maybe the golden age of being able to browse and talk to staff is over. It has happened big time with coarse fishing tackle and bait shops.  Angling Direct and a couple of others have caused most of our local shops to close.....and of course there is Amazon! We were talking about tackle prices last night at the club meeting and the consensus was that we all have ten times as much kit than we need.  :X2

Nothing against John Norris and co.

End of the day, they didnít start of as a massive online presence, itís just that certain retailers across the board, whether related to angling or otherwise, capitalised on the growing online shopping market.

Now they are so big, smaller retailers struggle to get or keep going.

Itís like Amazon.  On one hand Iíve read all the bad stuff about them and I know they are pretty dodgy.  On the other, I know I can go on there and buy almost anything and have it on my doorstep the next day.

You just canít beat that service.

Most of the time I just canít be bothered going into Aberdeen anymore.  The city centre is awful.  Union Street is run down and the parking charges are ridiculous.

I do miss having the variety of tackle shops but I know those days wonít be back.

Think you hit the nail on the head there.

It's impossible for small independent shops to cater for the full range of items people might want. this results in a trip to the local shop for a specific item drawing up a blank. when you factor in cost of travel and parking etc it is far easier and less hassle to order online.

Not only limited to small items or fishing kit, with free return and speed of delivery it is often more convenient to order online and run the risk of having to return or exchange an item.

if fact with some online retailers, Cookshill spring to mind, whom you can call and discuss an order/requirements you can even avoid issues with ordering natural materials blind online.

Went into my local tackle shop to order/get scissors for my fly-tying for the winter. [November]. Have been in many times since and still do not have them. Could have emailed John Norris or Flymakers  Aberdeen and got them possibly cheaper within a couple of days. This is just one reason shops are closing.  If G.A.C. can make a go of it why not others.

I popped into the shop in Perth about 3 years ago as I do like visiting a tackle shop and always find something to buy.

I found Mallochs really run down and try as I might I could find nothing to spend my money on ( which doesn't happen very often believe me !) - so it does not surprise me one bit that it has closed.

In Inverness I do use Grahams a lot as I prefer to buy local.

I tend to use John Norris if I want something 'high end' but don't want to pay the high end price - rods, waders etc

I don't mind using John Norris as they are a UK company and will be paying moral levels of tax.

I don't use amazon ? Why ? They may be really convenient to use but they treat their workers poorly, pay them poorly and pay sod all tax on massive profits so morally I just wont do it.

I'll get off my soapbox....
