'Spey' Loop 7X - tested
« on: 10/07/2019 at 20:56 »
So this year I fished a spring syndicate on one of the Ness beats.
Gordon Armstrong, the Ghillie on the beat, is associated with Loop tackle and I have been fortunate to have been able to try most of the new Loop toys.

So what's so special about the 7x :? Well it's not a round blank for starters.

Best I can come up with to describe it is your favourite 'conventional' rod and an old Hexagraph have had a love child..... but it's not a bastard, it's a superb rod.
Back in the day the theory behind the Hexgraph (geometric shape is more likely to retain it's shape and be more efficient etc) was sound, but the rods themselves were.... how shall I put this.... average :?
Loop have done their own thing, been unconventional and come up with a rod range that certianly appears to be lighter than similar rods from other manufacturers.

Is it any good :?
Yes, the 13'2" #8wt I tried is a splendid rod.

Would you buy one :?
Errr.... no. It's a tad pricey.

At mates rates :?
Hmmmmmm.... I recently had a Sage Igniter built, so no.

Why not :?
I recently had a Sage Igni.....

The 7X is a visual feast, it's a delight to cast and to fish with.
Build quality is exceptional. I only tried it with a matching Loop line, but it was a lovely combination and I'd happily borrow it again.
UK retail will be north of £1,000 - more like £1200. But trust me - it may be worth it....
