Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Howard & Stuart

Down Lochter way last week the catch record made interesting readings showing bags, which varied between the 20’s down to one.

It demonstrated how important it is, as the natural food becomes more plentiful to have the right fly fished at the right depth and retrieved at the right speed.

There is nothing more frustrating to be not getting as much as a half-hearted pull while an angler only nearby is landing fish after fish.

Lloyd Rattray on his two outings during the week certainly had the right combination using CDC’s, dry’s and bloodworm to bring 21 and 19 fish respectively to the net.

Paul Ingram from Newmachar described having a ‘splendid’ session using a klinkhammer point fly with diawl bach droppers to bring 20 fish to the bank and one was a very lively 8lb fish which gave a good account of itself.

Simon Ruddiman from Aberdeen also used a klinkhammer but this time in conjunction with a shammy fly to land 20 fish.

Local angler Bryan Ross deftly used dry’s and small buzzers to get 18 fish for his session.

Other successful fishermen were Ronnie Ewen with 16 fish on hawthorn flies, Jim Taylor with 13 fish on a dinky CDC, Sandy Scobie with 11 on various dry’s and Steve Prince with 10 fish on spiders and diawl bachs.

After last weekend’s downpour the weather is forecast to turn milder and more pleasant which will be good news for our ‘evening rise’ customers who have been having some great sport in the last couple of weeks, so that’s some good news all round.

Tight lines,

S.P 28/5.
