Lochter Report - The Best Laid Schemes
« on: January 14, 2019, 10:50:38 AM »

‘Fair Fa Your Honest Sonsie Face’ could be the greeting rather than ‘Fit Like’ over the next couple of weeks as a new ‘B’ word (nothing to do with Europe) features at events all over the country.

Yes… It’s Burns time, time when we celebrate the birth of our national bard Robert Burns. Acres of haggis, neeps and tatties are consumed, memories are immortalised, lassies toasted and kilts dusted down for their annual airing.

At Lochter Fishery in Oldmeldrum the poet is remembered at the annual and ever popular ‘Rabbie Burns Pairs’ competition scheduled for Sunday 27th January and casting off at 9.30am. The haggis will be suitably addressed prior to consumption at the traditional lunch and prizes will include oceans of Scotlands National drink. Anglers wishing to compete should contact the fishery on 01651 872787 or 01651 872000.

Over the past week there has been some excellent fishing with numerous anglers getting into double figures.

Albert Trail got things going with seventeen on a mix of mop flies and cats whisker and the same day Colin McDonald tempted eleven with his okay dokeys.

Graham Riley from Dyce bagged ten again using a cats whisker and a white and green lure. Also breaking the double figure barrier were D. Johnston with fifteen, S. Ruddiman, eleven, Neil Buchan, ten, Rhys West, ten, David Fong, twenty two and J. Gilmour, twenty four. His comment in the catch record “what can I say”. That says it all, fabulous fishing in pleasant conditions considering the time of year. Just shows that the best laid scheme O’ mice and men do sometimes work out just fine.
