Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

It’s not only the competitors in Strictly Come Dancing who have been on their toes; anglers at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum have had a spring in their step as the hungry trout, feeding up for winter, led them a merry dance round all three lochs.

On Monday Graham Duthie waltzed into the bothy to report his score for the day of twenty-six merrily caught on a WSW. He was closely followed by Steve Prince, with fifteen, Albert Trail, with fourteen and Bill Wood, also with fifteen.

This set the pattern for the week with the Blobby Boys having over forty, H. Watt, fourteen on mops and blobs and Ronnie Ewen, twenty-two on damsels and diawl bachs.

There were some beautiful big fish landed as well. Andrew May had one at 10lb in the bag of nineteen, Jim Sangster had two at 6lbs and one at 8lbs in his bag of nine. S. Murdoch a 7 1/2 lb beauty and the brothers, Sean and Chris one at 9lbs and another at 5lbs among their bag on an “awesome day”.

On Sunday twenty-two anglers competed in the Autumn Singles. Fished on the Muckle Troot loch, the landed 141 fish for an average of 6.4. The prize for the first fish landed went to Ronnie Ewen and the last fish to Neil Scowen. The overall winner was Paul Sharp with 25 points, second, Stuart Cruckett 20 points, third, Andrew Barrowman 19 points. Ernie McKay Snr also on 19 points was pipped for third on the count back but was awarded a consolation prize of a bottle of bubbly.

The next competition will be the Winter Pairs on Sunday 18th November. Until then, ‘keep fishing’.

H.H. 15/10.
