Sport For All at Lochter

On Sunday Lochter played host to the JDRF One Walk and One Run in support of the charity raising funds to fight Type One Diabetes. The Environs of the fishery were full of around seven hundred brightly clad participants. Nothing daunted the soberly dressed anglers who got on with the job of catching fish whilst at the same time giving an encouraging cheer to the odd straggler and at the end of the event several benefitted from the anglers generosity by getting a nice healthy tea to take home in the form of a freshly caught trout.

Top scores among the anglers on Sunday were Rhys West and Stuart Crockett with ten apiece caught mainly on black lures. Earlier in the week Graham Duthie did well with ten on cormorants, his best weighing in at 4 lbs. Ryan Stewart used dries and sedges to tempt nine up to the top then into the net. Demonstrating the wide variety of flies still working, I. Stephen had six on buzzers and T. Gray six on WSW’s and bunny leach’s. While Charlie McDonald topped the pole with fifteen on pearl cormorants, his best, an absolute beauty which tipped the scales at 8 lb. 14 oz.

The fluctuating air temperatures are definitely affecting the fishing. On the warmer spells more fish can be seen rising and dries have worked, then as things cooled the trout have dropped in the water and anglers have had to go a bit deeper. A nice conundrum never the less.
