What a way to christen my new SLX line..
« on: 11/06/2018 at 21:27 »
got a surprise 'green card' offered to me this evening so jumped at the chance,

hit my 'local' trout loch.

within 20 mins i got a nice, fat fish of about 3/4lbs ( on a purple zulu)

despite the early success i thought i would change my flies to something more natural.

2 casts later my new SLX goes tight...

after that i went home - all within 2 hours of leaving the house.

had my heart going that for sure.  I saw it take the fly, just subsurface ( took an emerger/hopper type creation) and didnt look that big. Came in easily at first as i dont think it knew what was happening so i thought i'd get it in the net - but it noticed and zoomed off on a couple of blistering runs. Wasnt still i got it in the net that i saw the size. Lovely wild fish  :z16

the flee that did the business

Nice Fish James, glad to see the Purple Zulu is still catching , I made up this fly 40 years ago, as an alternative to the blue variety, but that is one hell of a fish,  :z14 Derek Roxborough

very kind of you James, I have nearly 60 years of fly tying gear in my box, trying hard to use it before I shuffle of this mortal coil, I really had to stop gathering stuff, but thank you for the offer again, I have been tempted by Feather emporium  , Get thee behind me!, some amazing stuff on there, cheers Derek Roxborough
