Well after the roller coaster of water conditions in the last week.
Everything looked reasonable this morning, the sun was shining and Spring felt like it was here, this time the SEPA gauges were at a sensible height. Quick check on the webcam and a ticket was gotten for the Deveron.

Now i prefer to be fishing when the Daffys are out, so with there only being Snowdrops on the go things didn't look like they would be too fruitful.

But i was out fishing for the first time in 2018 and i was happy  :z16
I saw 2 LDO's and a March brown and that was it, so nothing showing. This meant an afternoon with the nymph and my silly bits of fluff.  Despite the increasing breeze and then the unforeseen rain and a river that was visibly going up again, it looked like i timed my window of opportunity quite well and found my first fish of 2018 hiding in a wee pocket.
After a subdued scrap i opened my 2018 Account.

A touch on the slim side , but in pretty good condition and a nice way to end a few weeks of frustration in not being able to get out.
Reckon its going to need to get a good bit warmer yet before we see enough flies for a decent rise.

Excellent Sandy and agree things are really running late this year (around 3 weeks i'd say  :cry)
But good to note you spotted a few upwings meaning things should get moving very shortly now.

Nice troot and nothing wrong with the silly wee bit fluff  :z4

lovely pic of your cane there Sandy.
I had half a mind to venture out on Sunday, but kinda glad I didn't
I had gone out on thursday... awoke to find the river had shot up 3 feet overnight. Game over. Took the dug for a walk instead.

Yet to wet a line in 2018. gasping

Finally some fly life and some troot movement although the moan now is it's too feckin bright (sport dying quickly once the sun comes out )

Anyway managed a few Rod Benders on the Olive DHE over the last couple of outings ranging from 3lb 1/2 oz through to 4lb 4oz along with a few two pluses and a good number of 'normal' troots for good measure.

Not getting out until next Sunday at earliest so cold turkey for me rest of this week   :cry

Cracking fish Allan and equally as good angling I imagine! Hopefully catch up again soon,

Sandy,  that is a beautiful rod and reel.  But the photo of that fish is the best photo of a fish I have seen in many years.
