Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

Howard & Stuart

Down Lochter way last week there was unremitting action with rods bending, reels screaming and knots being tested to their limits as things really got into swing after the cold snap. With the snow melting causing a milky colouring to the water it is usually associated with a somewhat dour time for fishing but the action evidently on display from the banks and recorded in the returns book confounded this theory as consistent catches were had throughout the week with many well into double figures.

If you have been hesitant to start your season then I suggest there is no time like the present and a trip to Lochter will prove both fruitful and enjoyable.

On the fishing front the Blobby Boys came out of cold storage and Dougie and Billy were well into double figures using the buzzer and blob. Others who made double figures were Bill Gibb senior and junior who both used the bungee buzzer to good effect for a fine family day out. Pete Green from Huntly who used the bloodworm and black eyed pea, Paul Sharp who consistently used buzzers throughout his session, Rhys West and Stuart Crockett who used a variety of lures and Graham Duthie, Simon Ruddiman and Graham Rhind who all used the bloodworm. Steve Prince had 9 nice fish using he buzzer and small nymph. John Smith used the cat’s whisker lure to land 7 fish and Mike Taylor from Aberdeen had 6 fish on a buzzer and cormorant combination.

This Sunday we will be holding the Troutmaster Fish Off and for those who have qualified it will determine who can represent Lochter at the prestigious final at Draycote Fishery on the 8th of October and for the juniors the final is at Thrunton Fishery on both the 21st and 22nd of July.
A reminded that our next Open Competition if the Spring Singles on Sunday the 8th of April which is a very popular event. There are good prizes to be had and the entry fee is £20, which includes a splendid lunch. If you want to enter then contact the Bothy on 01651 872787 to put your name down.
