I also like the Favo but the capacity is poor! (I want a #8 size reel.)

And that's one of the problems I have...who needs 75 yards of backing on a 2-3 weight reel? Adds unnecessary weight, especially when the backing gets wet in the rain or when dunked.

Feck yer Lamson, I just won another Teton on fleabay.  :z4 :z4 :z4 :z4 :z4 :z4 :z4 :z4 :z4 :z4 :z4 :z4
4.5" Spey model in the usual blue, which will match the 6 and 8 reels that I already have. I am just super stoked about this one as it is PERFECT for my next salmon rod. Dear God I love these reels! My first one, which is now on my 7'6" bamboo cost £200+ in the middle Ninties, the second was from Ebay a few years ago and cost £80 (hardly used) and this one (never used) was £119!!!
These things are rarer than Perfects!
Photos when it gets here. Sorry to hijack the thread :z7

Rob, you mentioned a Hydros SL at the beginning of this thread.

You might know already, but you get £75 off £250 (also £25 off £150 & £50 off £200) at the moment using the code SPRING.

Means you would effectively get a free spool with the reel.

The code is effective until 22 March.

I will not be buying another Lamson. As much as I like the function, low weight and super drag, the paint durability is just lamentable. The two/three year old reels and spools look more worn than my 50 year old Hardy! OK, I am not fastidious about the looks of my kit but a reel should be able to take a couple of years wear and tear without getting so scuffed. Hmmm! what shall I be getting for my 80th birthday?

Tricky.... have you looked at these http://www.einarsson.com/?cat=plus-reels I have been deeply impressed by these reels. They are, however, wallet witheringly expensive  :shock

Those Einarsson reels in red are very nice, too dear though.

I have a bit of a problem with expensive reels, never convinced they are worth the extra cash.

Case in point, I have an Orvis Mirage which I picked up half price when it was the end of the range for the new version coming out.  But RRP, that is a £350 ish reel.  It’s maybe just that reel, but I just don’t think it’s worth that kind of money.

I have other reels which I prefer and were cheaper.  It is very light though, maybe that’s what you are paying for  :z8

Rods on the other hand are easier to justify.  In my head anyway.
