Lochter Report - Prospects Improve as Weather Warms
« on: February 14, 2017, 13:59:50 PM »

At the time of writing the temperature has risen to eight degrees with every prospect that by the middle of the day it will be into the double figures. The mallard ducks are pairing up and there is a little swarm of midges dancing up and down in the lee of the buildings at Lochter Fishery in Oldmeldrum.

To the optimist signs that Spring is about to sprung while the pessimist reminds us that we still have the tech storm and gabo’may to suffer.

The indifference weather of the past week didn't put the anglers off and the fishing was steady rather than spectacular.

Steve Prince notched up ten on each of two visits using a mix of bloodworms, buzzers and blobs. Ryan Reid had eight on a yellow dancer and squirmy worms. Paul Rhind managed seven on nomads while the ever consistent Doug Mair used UV nymphs and buzzers to catch and return thirteen. Davy Wood back on dry land after a stint on the North Sea used the ever reliable WSW to tempt nine. He kept a couple for his tea and returned the rest.

A lift of a degree or two will bring the water to life and switch the trout on so let us hope that that is what happens.

Finally a reminder to Troutmasters Competition Anglers that the Lochter Final will be held on Sunday 19th March and anglers should advise the fishery that they intend to compete.
