Lochter Report - Ernie & Ernie are The Real Mackays
« on: January 30, 2017, 10:53:25 AM »
Conditions at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum were very pleasant as twenty-two competitors took to the bankside of the Muckle Troot loch for the first competition of the year, The Rabbie Burns Pairs. Fish were caught steadily throughout the morning session through to the 2pm finish when the anglers retired indoors to enjoy a hearty lunch of haggis, neeps and tatties. While this was being enjoyed the scrutineers were totting up the scores. A points system was used where anglers received two points for the first fish caught at each peg plus one point for each subsequent fish at that peg. Consistency of catching was therefore the key. When the points were added up the MacKays, Ernie Snr and Ernie Jnr were adjudged the winners with 24 points. Alan Patterson and Tommy Graham were runners up with 18 points while the bronze medal went to the experienced pairing of Bill Bain and Peter Wilson. Mini Lures, Tadpoles and nomads were the most successful flies, with black the favoured colour.

Earlier in the week there was some excellent fishing, Sandy Scobie had ten on Blobs, Alan Logan had one of his best days for a while with sixteen on Buzzers and Okay Dokeys and G.Gill caught and returned eleven using a Black Lure. A four man team from BT Steve Argo, Steve Williams, Sandy Wilson and John Robertson had a terrific day returning sixty four between them using Black Cats, while fishing buddies Bill Gibb and Neil Summers set personal records for their day using amongst other things the Haggis, Neeps and Tatties Fly invented and tied by Bill. This proved irresistible to the trout.

Hi what was Bill Gibbs new record over 50?
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work!
