I have a significant birthday coming up this year and am trying to combine two of my loves - fishing and my grandchildren. I am looking for a central scotland venue, where I can take a boat out for the day to get some good fishing in while being able to easily swap grandchilren in and out (as they tire!) and also with some nearby (preferably walking distance) entertainment for the rest of the family. The nearby entertainment could be as simple as a decent park where they could have a bbq and a play, or a town with a decent selection of shops and cafes.

I appreciate that this is asking a lot but any ideas would be gratefully received and much appreciated.

What kind of fishing are you after? Trout, salmon, coarse? Stocked, wild? River, loch? Might help folk narrow it down for you.

Mentieth has tourist attractions around it (including boat trip to the Abbey), Carron Valley another option with some fantastic forestry trails around the water.  Both offer the wee additional adventure of taking the kids out on a boat.
