too short lived, it would have to be a Juniper Tree, yes a tree not a shrub, it's over 40 ft. high and I cant Span it round, or here's a rare one , it's Betula Nana, very rare on Scottish Hills, what about the Alder ? used I past times as Scottish Mahogany, I like Pinus Sylvestrus  but an old one wont be much more than 300 yrs old, yet yew trees live for thousands, I spent a winter as a seed cruiser for Scots pine, nice tree, easgach  1

I see in todays "Scotland on Sunday" they have plumped for a copper Beech? easgach 1
