Lochter Report - Christmas Is Coming Fast!
« on: December 05, 2016, 11:26:30 AM »
I was reminded at the weekend by one of my young nieces that it was only ‘twenty sleeps until Christmas’. Time therefore to crack on with the Christmas shopping and at the same time to drop it to the family that I would like a musical saw from Santa.

Anglers up and down the country will be being sounded out as to what they would or would not like for Christmas; no ties, no socks, no shirts, no pants or after shave lotion please! Here are a few better ideas. Every year I get a Big Selection box full of tasty bars, treats and sweets. Great other presents I have received include a magnetic rod holder which sticks to the side of the car – holding the rod upright and eliminates the possibility of it being crushed in the car door, a rucksack which doubles as a seat – more used as the years wear on, a line winder to hold my lines in big loops over the winter and avoid reel memory, a nice see-through fly box with a selection of double deadly flies and finally a fishing voucher for me to enjoy.  So shout up the chimney and hopefully Santa will get the message.

During the past week the ice has all vanished at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum and amazingly there were some flies hatching as the days warmed up. As a consequence small flies, Buzzers and nymphs did best.

Doug Mair had eight and Bill Ferries six all on buzzers. Davy Morrison had eight on Hare’s Ears and Buzzers, Steve Prince caught and released nine on buzzers and Diawl Bachs, Bob Ingram returned seven all tempted by his Yellow Dancer and Ben Scott, six on an Okay Dokey.

The three lochs are all affected by ice at present but the forecast is for temperatures to soar to the mid-teens by Wednesday, which should clear things away.
