It has been a mixed year.
We had a pretty wet summer which was good for salmon fishing and produced some nice fresh silver fish but the back end has been pretty dry with low water during the prime months but fish were still caught by those willing to put in the effort and fish lighter tackle.
The trout season has been pretty steady, we have had some noice brown trout in the 4 to 6lb class caught but nothing to write home about.
Grayling fishing started well even though were struggling with low water with a few fish still being caught on the dry fly, river levels are starting to rise now with some rain recently but we could do with more.
I predict that the next decent rise in river level should produce some nice grayling.

'evening

I'd like to try this winter.  I live in Strathaven

Q1...slightly disabled (hip problem )
where do you suggest I can park with easy access to the river..?
happy to wade to knee depth

Q2 ...can I buy a season ticket/winter permit on-line or by mail.?
any concession for us senior citizens.?...:)

thanks......................

Hi John,
UCAPA do sell a winter grayling permit for £30
This give you access to 60 miles of double bank of river.
If wading is difficult then I woul d send you to the upper Clyde around Abington and Crawford.
You will still have to negotiate fences etc but this would be the best wading and fishing  in my opinion.
If you decide to fish in the Clyde valley I would check out Mauldise and Hazelbank for the best access.

permits are available in may local outlets which are list on our webiste www.ucapaltd.com
or you can purchase day permits on line via fishpal

hope that is of help

Cheers

Munro

Yes Rob.
We have a great team of bailiffs putting in a lot of leg work these days.
I honestly think it must be one of the most patrolled fisheries in Scotland these days, however someone will still moan that thy never see a bailiff.

Yes, three undesirables removed from Upper Clyde who were threatening violence etc.

It's a thankless job, credit to the guys who volunteer to do it

With the slight rise in temp over the weekend the grayling came back on the feed with a few fish caught up top and in the valley.
I haven't heard of any huge fish this year so far.
