Hi all here is a fly I tied it works very well for me on small waters it is similar to a Pittsford pea it works very well on small waters. The body is gel core micro body size 14 and the trusty Flexi cat photos below. There not in the box yet just been busy tying up some flies. I don't do much rivers yet but in time maybe

Nice one HF!  :z16

These guys have received some bad press lately so I had to try them.

The Mop:

The small (14) one looks ideal for the Don and Deveron Caddis.  The large one (12) is a little chunky but you never know.......

Now to find a yellow and cream mitt to steal bits from.

Ahh, the Bead Head Booger! :z4 :z4 :z4
In an odd way I like them. I read this on the Flyfisherman.com website,

“I’m sorry guys, but I absolutely hate the mop,” said one keyboard warrior. “I was fishing late summer one time and was doing ok and decided to try a mop for the first time. I watched fish that weren’t even feeding go out of their way to eat it. No matter if I dragged it, made a good drift, left it dangle in the current while I waded upstream, fish were literally moving 3 ft or more to eat it. It is definitely a deadly fly, but it required no skill, drift, or any of the technical aspects that makes fly fishing challenging and great.”

“Forget the Squirmy. Forget the egg flies. The Mop Fly is the most sinful fly of all time,” says a headline on the Flymen Fishing Co. web site."

I am off out to the shed where my alloy wheel cleaning noodle mop lives with some scissors..... Bwa ha ha :z4

I'm definitely in the 'fish very few patterns camp'.... I just carry them in a variety of sizes.  Tying these at the moment Liam, the 'Appleby Olive jig' which is my 'go to' river nymph. Like nigh on all my flies, it's tied as a scruffy mess of a thing that could be a number of food items. I tie it in 14's and 16's.

Andrew

They're what Sandy would term 'ammunition'.

Nice one Andrew  :z16

I've still got the ones you sent me. I must admit I didn't try them though as the back end dry fly was too good! March will be swimming time for them with a PTN on the dropper.

Thanks Mike, they've worked in every river I've fished them and a friend found it his most successful nymph in New Zealand, so I'm confident in fishing them... which is half the battle.

No worries Liam, they should do the business when you do swim them... let me know.  And here are a few of my bog standard stillwater pattern... Scruffy buzzers, simple and messy, I tie them with and without a bead head and they catch me nigh on all my fish until I turn to fishing mainly dries May/June time.

I've been messing around with these today. It took me a while to get the right diameter wire for the hook size and proper contrast with the colours but I'm happy now.

Size 18 Caddis Yellow:

Just need to let it dry over night and coat with resin in the morning.

My first batch fully finished. A couple of changes on my first few but I really happy with the outcome.  What do you guys think?

They are seriously heavy for the size of them so could be very useful on some of our bigger grayling rivers.

Blasting my size 18s in this bad boy tonight.

Rock hard finish in no time. Just what's needed to withstand those early season teeth!

Not quite Mike!  :z4 :z7

She uses it for setting nail varnishes and uv coatings. It's effectively just a huge powerful uv torch.... Does the job nicely I must say.
