Fishing The Fly Scotland Forum

The past week has seen the continuation of mixed weather with varying temperatures and rain with overhead conditions overcast at times interspersed with bright sunshine. This has led to different fishing conditions and required anglers to work hard to capture their quarry. July is traditionally the most difficult month of the year and with the unsettled weather, bigger catches have been difficult to find. The best recorded catches this week fell to; A Cowie, Fraserburgh, 29 fish, (crunchers, orange blob), A Murray, Gardenstown, 9 fish, (orange fritz, black fritz), I Burnett, Fraserburgh, 8 fish, (diawl bach), K Porter, Peterhead, 6 fish, (dry fly), P Watt, Gardenstown, 6 fish, (black nymph), P O'Donnell, Hull, 6 fish, (dry fly), D Cruickshank, Aberdeen, 5 fish, (dry fly).

It was encouraging to see the emerging success of dry fly fishing and although this has been sporadic during the day, we can expect this activity to continue and improve. Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is open seven days from 8am til 9pm and booking is not necessary. Visitors are always welcome and boats (where required) rods and tackle is available for hire at the fishery. For up to date information and conditions phone Bob on 07980 999 006. :z15
