Buzzers and Dries Take a Trick

There is nothing more exciting to the average angler than to see a big trout rise confidently to the surface and suck down a well presented dry fly.

A brief pause as the angle matters ‘God Save the Queen’ then lifts into the fish and an exhilarating fight ensues.

During the past week at Lochter Fishery in Oldmeldrum, dry flies have come into their own and anglers have enjoyed some real top of the water sport.

On two visits Liam Stephen recorded catch and release bags of twenty five and sixteen mainly using tiny CDC floaters.

Brian Whyte from Mintlaw had an exceptional day, his dry flies bringing thirty two fish to the net.

Others used a mix of dries and nymphs to good effect, these included B. Ruddiman with twelve, John White from Parkhill who tempted fourteen and Charlie Gray who had a lovely six pounder in his bag of ten.

The Buzzer Boys have also been doing well. N. Smith had a great evenings fishing with two kept and seventeen released, W.Downie grassed seventeen and Sandy Scobie ten on black buzzers.

This Sunday the Fishery will host the Sommers Down Syndrome Day sponsored by Sommers Tackle from Aberdeen while earlier in the week Ellon Academy junior anglers will be testing their fishing skills with both groups I am sure it will be trout for tea!

Here's a special catch from yesterday's bag of 35. I had stalked this fish on 4 separate occasions and got snapped by it once. Eventually a size 18 olive brassie dropped in its path was its downfall.

The fish was in great condition and measured 21". Another Epic catch for the 376!
