Usually when we see the weather forecast charts on the television they show temperatures in London and the South East at least 20’C plus and the temperatures in Aberdeen and the North East struggling to make it into double figures.

So it brought a sense of relief and a tad of smugness to see the roles reversed over the weekend and continuing into the current week. We are set to bask in the sun for a couple of more days while it is cool & wet “Doon Sooth”.

At Lochter Fishery in Oldmeldrum the management, being aware that the Scottish skin is not too keen on too much sun, are providing a selection of suntan lotions for anglers so that they can enjoy their sport and not end up with a red face.

Two anglers who certainly did not have red faces were the McLean’s, Craig & James. Using a selection of Nymphs & Lures, mainly tied by themselves, they caught well over forty fish between them. A wide variety of flies have been working during the week, Buzzers, Diawl Backs & Crunchers were the choice of Steve Prince who had ten, Graeme Duthie also ten, Davey Ross nine and John Lewis down from Peterhead with the Newburgh Anglers who netted eight. Squirmy worms worked for Peter Young with nine. Lenny Davidson found that Nomads where worth a throw and Black Minkies were the choice of J Brown from Aberdeen, both anglers had eight apiece.

Looking out from the Fisherman’s Lodge the trees are beginning to leaf up very quickly now and the grass is beginning to grow, sure signs that Spring has sprung at last !
