Lochter Report - What Has Happened to Spring??
« on: April 19, 2016, 11:16:26 AM »

This Thursday hundreds of beacons will be lit to celebrate the Queens 90th Birthday. Apart from being a tribute to her majesty, it is to be hoped that the heat from the beacons will warm the air a bit and bring Spring a step closer.

At Lochter Fishery in Oldmeldrum, anglers have had to thole an icy blast from the north interspersed with showers of sleet - not ideal fishing conditions!

In spite of this, sport was steady and some excellent bags were recorded.

In the sheltered corners buzzers and dries worked well with Paul Sharp and Brian Ross netting fifteen and fourteen respectively using a mix of these flies.

On more exposed water lures did best. S. Murdoch had ten on tadpoles, Paul Anderson nine using black lures and Lyal Wilson on one of his pilgrimages from Newtonhill, a dozen on an orange fritz.

Anglers had to react and change tactics as conditions altered and other flies which did well included cormorants, yellow dancers and blobs.

The Spring Singles Competition is set to go this Sunday 24th April at 9.30am. Entries are still being received on 01651 872787 / 872000.

Lochter is hosting a two day, three session beer festival along side the popular Inverurie Beer Festival team on Friday and Saturday but most of the stragglers should have gone before Sundays cast off!
