I have in the past arranged some grayling days on the river earn . This offer appears on several web sites,  i can do nothing about the weather but can promise you an entertaining day, those of you who know my pal Sandy the gillie will know what I mean.  The date is usually late nov on a sunday so if your interested let me know and I will post more details.  jim

Great stuff Jim :z16

I'm sure that would be a fantastic outing, especially since we don't have the opportunity to fish for these beautiful fish locally.

Best wishes
Mike

Yes please..I love Grayling fishing and normally fish the Tay or the Isla for them, never hit the Earn.

What methods will be allowed and any chance of getting on the beat for the Roach :)

Regards
Rob

all legal methods rob, I,ve never seen roach that far up the system , they tended to be below dunning bridge , I have to say I,ve not heard of any significant roach catches from the tay system or a few years.  jim

Jim,
Me and my fishin' buddy have never fly fished for Grayling & would love to go, an added bonus if there's someone there with a bit of local advice. Hopefully this would be ok as we are both ace company! :>)

These events are quite light hearted affairs, there are a few experts who are happy to pass on tips and info, oh and one or two whisky reps who share the odd sample or 2.  we try to put on the odd bight to eat and most folk bring something its a good intro to grayling, if somewhat dangerous for your liver . lol jim

Regarding the Roach on the river Earn. Have fished the Dupplin beats for almost thirty years  and had great sport with the Roach on tynie dry flys [fish up to 2 1/4 lbs] but have not seen any for many years.

Jim,
count me and my mate 'Fishin' Kev' in. Any pointers on fly patterns or 'specialised' kit would be much appreciated. Also I was toying with the idea of buying an upstream/ Czech nymphing rod, does anyone have any advice on this - I'm sure that a 10' 5wt outfit would be suitable & have looked at the Orvis Western2.

Does Mikes line of rods cover this size?

Keep me posted on the Grayling scene

I have been hearing reports that the Roach are making a slow recovery after the shocking netting of them. I am going to have a serious go for them at Perth this winter and see if the rumours are true :)

It will soon. The prototype 10ft6" 4 pc 5 wt has proved to be very good indeed, although it was geared for loch style fishing, it will be a brilliant Czech style rod too. There wont be any ready for Nov, we were looking to the new year for a release. It has been tried by a few folk now with only the Big man yet to pass an opinion, so all being well it will be something to look forward too for 2008. :z16
