Lochter Report - Testing Conditions for Anglers
« on: February 15, 2016, 11:09:24 AM »
With the salmon fishing season on the Don opening on Thursday anglers had to contend with eroded banks, trees blocking good pools and piles of debris all courtesy of recent floods.

At Lochter Fishery in Oldmeldrum, anglers had to contend with ice which restricted the fishing areas and ‘cauld hands’.

The hardy anglers who did brave natures challenges deservedly did okay.

Top scorer of the week was Jim Brown who caught and released nineteen using a wide variation of flies from a big WSW to small buzzers. Also having a great day was Mike Leitch who had twelve on a mix of cormorants and dial backs. Paul Paton had eight using using monotones and cormorants, and two other anglers G. Duthie and Paul Robertson also chipped in with scores of eight.

Bill Gibb used buzzers and squirmy worms to accounts for eleven with his best tipping the scales at 6lb 3oz.

The forecast for this week is decidedly mixed with Spring having  great difficulty elbowing Winter out of the way.

That said anglers who wrap up well will still have a fine time.
