First day back on the river this year. Came home on holiday for the safe landing of Stevens new daughter a lovely wee springer of 8 pounds. Then an hour after starting on a beat just below Banchory the line went tight and after a short fight I landed this wee seven pound springer which swam away strongly after release to continue its journey upstream.

Nice start to the new season.

Nice one Eddie!
Must have forgot that you were back so soon. Has the "beat below Banchory" changed much after the flooding?
Oh and congrats Grandad  :wink

Euan,

signal and station at the top of beat one have noticeably improved. however the floating bank is wrecked and is about 15 to 20 yards narrower due to a huge stone beach on the south bank. It looks like it will still fish okay but the access road is completely gone and the damage to the bank will take an awful lot of repairing. The Pantoch is a bit deeper on the north bank which means that the opposition were struggling to wade far enough over to fish it effectively.

I was lucky to find that fish there were not many about. Maybe the rise in temperature and the two foot rise in water yesterday will encourage some movement.

Missing your funky hat though!

Iain,

I could not find the funky hat from past escapades but rest assured when we move home shortly that normal service will be resumed. We are flying back to Dubai tomorrow but not for too long and then you will no doubt see the hat on the bank of a river or loch somewhere.

Excellent news Eddie that you are heading back home. Must introduce you and Stephen to the Esks and get a trip up North sorted out with Hamish.
Sounds like all the beats in the North East will need to be re-learned this year by fish and anglers alike. I do love a challenge!
