Fishing Pods to explore in Scotland
« on: 15/01/2016 at 17:37 »
I've really enjoyed my trips to Hoddom Castle and the fishing on the River Annan. I like the idea of the camping pods, they're so much better than a tent and so flexible.  Most self catering lodges or chalets are only let weekly, but a quick trip for 2 or 3 days is so much easier to do.

The fishing is easy to organise too, either phone the ghillie in advance to book your rods, or simply book them online via the Fishpal website.

Of course hotels and B&Bs are another option for a short fishing break, but these can often curtail fishing well into the evening, as you can worry about disturbing other guests if you return from the river at midnight.

It would be great to find a few more locations with pods like this throughout Scotland, with access to some reasonably good fishing nearby

Any suggestions folks? ..... A few more options for short fishing breaks like this would be great :z16

Interesting ...... no more suggestions.

Either Hoddom is quite unique, or folk want to keep other locations like this up their sleeve, which I can understand.

Sands Holiday Centre has those small wooden tent type structures, I suppose they could be pod like , Near Gairloch, they have a hill loch and a small stream that gets seatrout , The local Angling club has a lot of hill lochs, easgach 1

That looks like it might be worth exploring 'easgach 1' :z16

I've had a quick look at their website, they call their 'pods' Wigwams, but the idea is the same. They are available on a nightly basis and are located on a camp site with all the usual shower/toilet blocks etc and there is a cafe for reasonably priced breakfasts and meals. One of the beauties of these things is you just need a sleeping bag and maybe a pillow ..... plus your favourite coffee mug of course  :wink

......... and I'm sure there will be fishing to explore in that area

Great stuff :z16

I'm guessing they'll be closed at this time of year, but it would be great if we could find a few places like this all over Scotland.

You've stayed in the pods, so you know what we are looking for ........... keep your eyes open for more possibilities like this near fishing when you are out and about on your travels Hamish :wink
