Finally made a window for the appointment with my Vice  :wink

So been busy since last night filling my box with nice new hooks ready for tomorrows first escapade.

So its business as usual (although new hooks after last years issues with the 100's) with a nod to the one i discovered last year, which i played with this morning to get it to float in bigger sizes, so thank you Liam )for the pattern) Andrew Ellis (for the body material) and Davie Mcphail (he provided the answer to floating a size 12/14)

So here's to tomorrow :z18 may 2016 bring you all a monster :z16

Cheers

Sandy

Cheers Bud

The hook is a Fulling Mill 35050, a mate sent me some to try out, it looks exactly the same as the Maruto DO4BL i got off Lucian.
Both are better than the last few batches of Partridge SLD's i've had. I was dissappointed with the thick points and poor hook ups, these new hooks have the nice Dk Nickel finish but have the sharpness and slimness of point like the TMC103BL, but without the solid black finish :z16
The floating was using more feathers :X1 and cutting the tags a bit longer to make a wing shape, Liam had already told me that but it wasn't until i wathced Davie's video that i understood how long they had to be

Liam, tight lines mate, i'm out wednesday as well :z12 been a long 5 1/2 months!

It's not as hard as it seems. Take a handful of patterns you like using and get the materials for them. Learn the basics - dubbing, ribbing,  tailing, whip finish etc. Practice, practice and practice some more and it will all come good.

Here's a few I'd recommend to start with:

F-Fly straight or curved, very straight forward to tie and uses only a few materials. It will work all season long and cover a multitude of hatches in different sizes and colours.

Pheasant Tail Nymph, my love for this nymph is apparent if you look back through this thread. Again it's very easy to tie and uses a few materials. Keep it thin and make sure it tapers. Play about with bead colour, thoraxs, hotspots and ribbing colour to give you endless variations. Size 12-16 will see you okay all year.

DHE, same as the other two. The hardest thing about this fly is positioning the wing and getting the proportions right. Save this fly until you are a little more confident.

I have spare materials and hooks, I'm sure others will have spare as well. If you would like a selection to get started let me know!  :z16

Ha ha  Liam, Your a preacher on a deaf ears (literally),  "When I  say I must get into it"  I say in  jest  :X2  I am just not made of the Fly tying stuff your need patience, were I have none,.
Nope I  don't even think a pack of naked lady fly ties could get me interesting tying.
But Your enthusiasm is commendable and your work is outstanding.

I get mine from my pal Ebay   :X1

Inspired by an recent talk with a mate along with watching countless yank fly tying videos. I decided to give micro flies a go.

Nice and simple works best with hooks this small I think. I'm going to do a couple more patterns to make up a small micro fly box.

Size 20s:

They should do the trick!

After several  fish in the nice to absolute belting bracket on the same fly,  I have decided I only need a single nymph.

This one:

This means I have around 300 others (most are on previous pages of this thread)  sitting doing nothing. If anyone is interested in buying them PM me.
